Stumptown Coffee Roasters PDF Print E-mail

Stumptown_coffeeStumptown Coffee is all about cafes, baristas, relationships and the world. From the first café and roastery opened in 1999, the mission has remained the same.
Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Stumptown was started with the goal of doing things differently, with a vision focused on quality. The company strives to source the best coffees in the world, understanding and monitoring quality, and how the coffee is grown, picked, separated and processed. In addition Stumptown works to maintain close relationships with their farmers. "We are committed to the well-being of everyone we work with, from the farmers and the communities they live in, to our employees and communities here in the States." The roastery facilities have now expanded to three cities across the US, and expanded to several cafes and wholesale partnerships around the country, including Whole Foods.

We sampled several Stumptown coffees:
Our favorite was Hair Bender – We were delighted with this full-bodied, rich cup – perfect for espresso and cappuccino as well.
Hair Bender is complex blend featuring coffee from every major producing region. It is described as "complex sweet and savory blend, which yields flavors of milk chocolate, caramel, jasmine, Meyer lemon, apricot and pineapple".

Hair Bender is $14.00 for a 12 Oz Bag
Coffees range from $14.00 to $25.50 for 12 ounce bags

Stumptown offers an informational Brewing Guide for consumers.

Harvest Song Fresh Artisanal Preserves PDF Print E-mail

Harvest_Song_freshwalnut_preserves

Each batch of Harvest Song Award-Winning Preserves begins with the fertile ground of the biblical Ararat Valley, famed as the landing site of Noah's Ark. The company prides itself as one of the few preserve makers that uses only fresh, hand-harvested fruits grown in volcanic soil, slowly simmered in small batches and allowed to thicken without use of any pectin (jellying component).

In the Fresh Walnut Artisanal Preserves, whole walnuts float in sweet sugar syrup. The fresh baby walnuts are picked green from the tree before they have a chance to age. They are preserved, cured, and to be enjoyed and eaten complete with their tender shells.

• Use to complement cheeses, cakes, pies and frozen desserts
• Eat the sweet walnuts as a snack
• Add a candied walnut to a cocktail
• Kosher Certified by the OU
• Approximately $10 for 18.9 ounce jar

Ancient Harvest Quinoa Star-KP PDF Print E-mail

Ancient_Harvest_Quinoa

Ancient in its origins, Quinoa actually has been a food staple for more than 5,000 years.
Quinoa ("Keen-Wa") is a sesame-seed-sized kernel that has been cultivated in the Andes Mountains for thousands of years. The seeds traditionally have a bitter coating. However, once their natural saponin coating is washed off, they are pale yellow and delicate in flavor. For convenience Ancient Harvest Quinoa arrives boxed, fully cleaned and washed prior to packaging and does not need rinsing. According to the Star-K: Quinoa is Kosher L'Pesach and is not related to the five types of chometz grains, millet or rice. However, because there is a possibility that quinoa grows in proximity to chometz grains and is processed in facilities that compromise its Kosher for Passover status, quinoa should only be accepted with a reliable Kosher for Passover supervision. Ancient Harvest Quinoa imported from Bolivia is certified kosher year round by the Star-K, but for use on Passover, Star-K P must be on the label.

  • 50% higher in fiber than wheat
  • Easy to digest
  • Complete protein with ten essential amino acids
  • Gluten free, high in calcium, low in sodium, no cholesterol
  • Great as a side dish, in soups, salads and breakfast cereal
