“Real Food, Real Good, Really!”

frozen-souffles-broccoli-corner

What to do on those days that you want to eat healthy, nutritious, wholesome, low calorie but filling? Or, you need a side dish for dinner and simply have no time or ingredients for preparing just right the accompaniment to your entree.  And, you want to eat well; no trans fats, no wheat, no gluten, no MSG, kosher of course! We have found solutions to these “dietary dilemmas” in parve, Star–K certified, dairy free, Garden Lites. Do we sound like we’re scripting a TV commercial? Perhaps we do, because we really enjoyed these alternative and convenient options: fast, healthy, and really good.

According to the company, in each 7–ounce frozen soufflé, there are one – two full servings of vegetables. Now that’s healthy! We think that each package makes a perfect lunch or dinner for one person, but also works well as a side dish for two people, alongside an entrée.

There are currently eight varieties of Garden Lites soufflés, including butternut squash, roasted vegetable, zucchini, spinach, broccoli and cauliflower; and, two vegetable entrees – zucchini portabella and zucchini marinara. We heated our sample packages in the re-usable microwave safe-container supplied by the company. Here are the results of our tastings:

We served the Zucchini Portabella as a side dish to a fish dinner along with roasted potatoes and enjoyed it very much.

gardenlitebroccoliWe also especially liked the Broccoli, Spinach and Zucchini Soufflé, which we topped with a sprinkling of mozzarella cheese and gobbled down each soufflé as a lunch meal. Delicious! (We mean one per day, of course!). We think that the Zucchini Marinara might be an excellent sauce option for pasta. Of course, we added a sprinkling of Parmesan, why not?

And now, let’s talk calories, if we must!  Most Garden Lites are less than 200 calories – some as few as 110! Now that’s a diet bargain! And, if you are on the Weight Watchers program, each full souffle counts as only two points.

We recommend these convenient Garden Lites meals for our time starved, wellness conscious, KosherEye friends searching for fast, easy and tasty ways to EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!
